A New Place of Ministry

On June 27, 2011 I began serving as the Interim Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Thomson, Georgia.  I served as senior pastor of this church from 1979 to 1992.  As some have said, "It is good to be back home."  Jackie and I are very happy to be ministering along side one of the best church staffs I have ever known---three called, capable, and committed fellow pastors and a wonderful support staff.

It is increasing apparent that this great church is standing before an open door to the future---a door that God is opening.  There are several reasons I perceive this to be true.  First, an increasing number of church members are taking personal ownership of the church purpose: "Love God, Love People, Serve the World."  Second, it is apparent that God has grace-gifted this people for Kingdom Service.  Third, as I mentioned above, the church staff is visionary, positive, and single-hearted. In the fourth place, the organizational structure of the church is focused, purpose aligned, and ready to be a servant to ministry and missions. Also, for the first time in thirty plus years, the church is debt free and has more than adequate physical facilities. And last, the church is on the eve of calling a new Senior Pastor to be its Servant-Leader.

There are other positive signs on the horizon, but I believe the above six are major and presently evident.  I am humbled to be a small part of all that God is doing and will do through The First Baptist Church in Thomson.  Come join us!
